UTX Freight Documentation

Welcome to the official documentation for UTX Freight, transport management software for freight companies. You use it to take orders, dispatch drivers, track containers, and invoice customers.

About UTX Freight

  • Two shipment modes. Each UTX Freight account runs in either intermodal mode or ground mode. The mode is set for your account by UTX, not by users.
  • Optional modules. Garage (a repair shop module for work orders, parts and garage invoices) is an optional module. It only appears in the side menu when it is enabled for your account.
  • One app, several kinds of users. Office staff use the web app. Drivers, brokers and yard workers use the mobile screens. Customers and consignees can sign in to see their own orders.

Add-ons that may not be on for your account

Some features are add-ons that UTX turns on for your account. If one is not enabled, its menu items and buttons do not appear. Add-ons include:

Fuel Surcharge, Container Tracking, Multi-office, Garage and Auto Orders (orders created from an uploaded document).

Tagging (order tags) works the same way, but it is an account option rather than an add-on: it is on when UTX sets up a list of tag names for your account.

Pages about these features say if enabled for your account. See Add-ons & Account Options for the full list and what each one adds.

The Online Documentation link in the top menu bar of the web app opens this site in a new tab.

New Account? Start Here

If you are an Admin or Manager, the side menu shows a setup checklist entry at the top:

  • Getting started on a new account (hover over it to see how many steps are left before your first invoice)
  • Setup check on an account that is already invoicing but still has items to set up (hover over it to see how many are left)
  • Setup complete with a green check once everything on the checklist is done

Click it to see each remaining step and jump straight to the page where you complete it. See Setup Checklist and Getting Started.

Which Page Do I Need? (By Role)

Pick your role to find the pages you will use most. What each role can see and do is described in User Roles & Permissions.

Not sure what a word or status means?

The Glossary lists the terms, screen labels, abbreviations and status names used in UTX Freight (for example LFD, App. Taken or POD), with a short definition and a link to the page that explains each one. It also groups the alternate names some features go by.

Container tracking is scheduled, not real-time

When Container Tracking is enabled, UTX Freight checks the tracking sources your account is connected to on a schedule and updates container information when it runs. Updates are not instant. See Container Tracking.

  2. Under How important is this?, choose Low, Normal (the default) or Urgent.

Where the Feedback button is

Feedback (and the Online Documentation link) is only in the top menu bar of the main web app. The Garage pages and the mobile screens do not have it. To send feedback from there, open a page in the main web app first.

See Signing In, Navigation & Your Profile for more about the top menu bar, the side menu and your profile.
